An Open Letter

To: Sen. Scott, Sen. Moody

From: A constituent in Winter Park, FL

April 27

May 1 is not a suggestion. It is the law. Under the War Powers Resolution, the 60-day window for unauthorized military action in Iran expires this week. At that point, Congress must either authorize this war or end it. There is no third option. Yet you have remained silent. This conflict was launched under claims of an “imminent threat” that U.S. intelligence has not substantiated. Meanwhile, billions of taxpayer dollars have already been spent on what many now recognize as a war of choice, not necessity. And the American people are not on your side. Multiple polls show a majority of Americans oppose continuing this war, with opposition often exceeding 60%. Your refusal to act is not prudence. It is political cowardice. Even more troubling, this reckless approach has weakened the United States globally. Allies are distancing themselves, intelligence cooperation is fraying, and our national security is eroding under an increasingly isolated and impulsive presidency. The Constitution is clear. War powers belong to Congress. On May 1, your time is up. Do your job. Put your vote on the record.
