An Open Letter

To: Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez

From: A constituent in Vancouver, WA

February 2

The House votes Monday to reopen the government. The revised DHS bill returns to the House by February 13—eleven days from now. As your constituent, I am stating my position clearly: ICE should be abolished entirely. Senators Murray and Cantwell are negotiating accountability measures with Republicans: body cameras, warrant requirements, no masks, end to roving patrols, independent oversight. When that revised bill reaches the House floor, you will vote again. I expect you to vote NO. If the bill includes the accountability measures your senators negotiated, vote NO and explain that reforms are insufficient—ICE must be defunded. If the bill does not include meaningful reforms, vote NO and explain that you cannot fund operations without accountability. Either way, the answer is NO. Your January 22nd vote accomplished nothing. Your senators stripped it out and are doing the work you refused to do. Follow their lead. Eleven days. Vote NO.
