I am writing to express my deep alarm and outrage over former President Donald Trump's recent hot mic moment with El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, where he was reportedly heard discussing sending non-immigrant Americans to Salvadoran prisons. This is not just appalling—it is a chilling sign of a man who sees no limits to executive power, no boundaries on violating civil liberties, and no loyalty to the Constitution he once swore to uphold.
Let me be clear: the practice of disappearing immigrants—detaining or deporting people without due process—is already morally reprehensible and a violation of the Constitution. But now we are facing the unimaginable: the idea of extending that same lawless cruelty to American citizens. This should send shockwaves through every branch of government.
We cannot wait for Trump to start disappearing more Americans who dissent or displease him. We cannot wait for him to shred what remains of our democratic institutions. The time to act is now.
Members of Congress who continue to support or enable him must summon the courage to push back. History will not remember silence kindly. It is your duty—not just as lawmakers, but as Americans—to restore balance and take back the power from an increasingly dangerous executive.
The world is watching. We are watching. And we demand action. Stop further disappearances and bring the already disappeared back.
