Oppose the SAVE America Act and Protect Utah's Election System

To: Rep. Maloy, Sen. Lee, Sen. Curtis

From: A constituent in Salt Lake City, UT

March 19

Vote no on the SAVE America Act. This federal overreach would dismantle Utah's well-functioning election system to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Utah already requires voter ID and proof of citizenship to vote. Our state has strong safeguards against fraud, including signature verification and a ban on ballot harvesting. Even Senator Lee admits Utah "handles mail-in balloting in a manner that is safer than how most states handle it." Federal law already prohibits noncitizens from voting in federal elections. There's no evidence of widespread fraud that justifies this intrusion into state authority. The SAVE America Act would take effect immediately in the middle of an election year. Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, Utah's top election official, calls it "impossible to implement" and warns it would violate the constitutional right to a secret ballot by forcing voters to include copies of their ID with mailed ballots. This isn't about election security. It's about Washington politicians second-guessing state officials who actually run elections. Utah voters chose our mail-in system. Republicans should trust states to manage their own elections, not impose one-size-fits-all mandates from Washington. Reject this bill and defend state sovereignty.
