I am concerned about the House budget that recently passed and its potential impact on federal student loan programs.
I'm deeply concerned about the budget cuts targeted at Education and Workforce spending over the next decade. This budget resolution specifically implicates reforms to Public Service Loan Forgiveness, elimination of the SAVE repayment plan, cutting back borrower defense protections, capping Pell Grants, and eliminating Graduate and Parent PLUS loans.
Many public service workers have been making payments toward PSLF for many years. They rely on income-driven repayment to make monthly student loan payments manageable while working in lower paid public service jobs.
These programs are essential for people who have chosen careers serving their communities. Financial decisions were made by these workers based on the benefits assured them at the time they signed their Promissory Notes.
I'm asking my Representative to:
*Oppose cuts to student loan forgiveness programs in the reconciliation process
*Protect Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) specifically
*Ensure the Education and Workforce Committee preserves these critical programs at all costs
