Concerns Regarding HB 1471

To: Sen. Scott, Rep. Gimenez, Sen. Moody

From: A constituent in Miami, FL

March 7

I am writing to express my concerns about HB 1471 currently under consideration in the Florida Legislature. While I appreciate the Legislature’s efforts to address issues affecting our state, I am concerned that HB 1471 could have unintended consequences for our community especially giving limited and vague definitions of what is considered a domestic terrorist. In particular, I am worried that the bill may give a limited group of people too much say without clear guidelines of who qualifies for a domestic terrorist. This especially begins to limit people’s freedom of speech, especially if just vocalizing something wrong can incorrectly label someone a terrorist. We already have enough mechanics in place to handle this issue in our state. We do not need a more controlling bill to pass that can ultimately hurt American’s freedoms. Reject this bill and do no allow it to continue to pass.
