An Open Letter

To: Rep. Mathis, Rep. Gutierrez

From: A constituent in Tucson, AZ

June 8

This bill is concerning as it could create an unsafe and harmful environment for LGBTQ+ students in public schools. Allowing teachers to express views that misgender, deadname, or otherwise discriminate against transgender and non-binary students is unacceptable. Such actions can have severe negative impacts on these students' mental health and wellbeing. We must ensure schools are inclusive spaces where all students feel respected, validated, and able to learn free from discrimination. I urge you to oppose this bill and instead prioritize policies that protect the rights and dignity of LGBTQ+ youth. Their identities and experiences deserve to be affirmed, not attacked.
