Support HB 302 to protect foster children's benefits

The practice of redirecting social security and survivor benefits away from children in state custody is deeply concerning and unjust. These funds rightfully belong to the children, not the state, and are crucial for providing stability and opportunity as they transition to adulthood. Too often, foster youth face daunting challenges like homelessness, lack of education, and early parenthood due to systemic disadvantages. By allowing the state to retain only 50% of these benefits through HB 302 and setting aside the remainder for the children's futures, we can begin to address this injustice. These young people have already endured immense trauma and loss; depriving them of financial resources intended for their well-being only compounds their struggles. We must prioritize their rights and act as responsible guardians, nurturing their potential rather than perpetuating cycles of hardship. For the sake of these vulnerable children, I urge support for HB 302 and a commitment to reforming practices that undermine their prospects for success.
