I am a constitutent of Utah and a pediatrician who cares for children here. I am writing to express profound concern over the impact that ICE is having on our communities. I am alarmed by your continued support for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) without demanding substantive, systemic reform including. I urge you to publicly condemn cruel enforcement practices and refuse to approve any funding for ICE that does not include strict conditions to end policies that harm our community and violate human rights. We are literally watching them commit government sanctioned murder in American cities. The blood is now on your hands. There is no excuse for continuing to allow them within hospitals, clinics and schools. I have seen children and families who are here legally and some with asylum petitions pending who are scared to take their children to school or to the doctor, and who have been afraid to call 911 when their child is critically ill. I understand that you support deportation efforts of people who did not follow legal paths to enter to U.S. but that is not what this is about anymore. I specifically call on you to: · Publicly support legislation that conditions any future ICE funding on the implementation of major reforms to stop mass raids and abusive practices. · Exercise vigorous congressional oversight over ICE operations and demand transparency. · Reinstate protections blocking ICE from sensitive spaces like schools, churches, public service offices, hospitals and clinics As these events continue to unfold with more violence and less faith in the ability of this country to keep ICE as a lawful and human organization, a growing majority of Americans are demanding change. I expect you, as my representative, to reflect our community's values by taking immediate action to rein in ICE. We will be closely watching your votes and public statements on this issue.
