We, the undersigned, strongly urge you to take action to protect our nation’s parks, wildlife, and natural resources following the Supreme Court’s decision in Loper Bright v. Raimondo. This ruling overturned decades of precedent established by Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council, which ensured that decisions on complex laws were guided by experts in their fields.
By removing this safeguard, the Supreme Court has jeopardized critical environmental protections that preserve our natural heritage. Decisions affecting public lands, air, water, and ecosystems require the expertise of environmental scientists and public lands managers—not unqualified individuals or entities pursuing private agendas.
Furthermore, unelected individuals are pushing for budget cuts and rollbacks that could devastate the systems designed to safeguard our environment. These actions undermine democratic accountability, threaten public health, and prioritize corporate profit over the public good.
We call on you to:
1. Support legislation to restore the role of expert guidance in implementing environmental laws.
2. Reject any efforts to weaken environmental regulations or cut budgets for agencies like the National Park Service and the Environmental Protection Agency.
3. Ensure accountability for individuals or entities bypassing congressional authority to advance private interests at the expense of our shared environment.
Regulations exist to protect what cannot protect itself. As our elected representative, we rely on you to safeguard our future and defend the irreplaceable treasures of our parks, wildlife, and natural resources.
The American people deserve leadership that prioritizes the public good over private gain.
