As a German teacher and someone who lived in Germany, I have spent years studying the dangers of authoritarianism, scapegoating, and state-sponsored fear. I am shocked and heartbroken to witness echoes of German history playing out in modern-day America through ICE raids that tear families apart and spread fear in our communities.
This is not who we are supposed to be.
I am deeply afraid for my family, my friends, and my students. No one should have to live in fear in a country that claims to stand for freedom and justice. I urge you to take immediate action to stop ICE raids and to protect the safety and dignity of all Americans, regardless of immigration status.
We are watching. History is watching. Please act with courage and compassion.
