President Donald Trump's administration is actively withholding and deferring billions of dollars in federal funding from Democratic-led states, tying the cuts to targeted fraud reviews, immigration policies, and disaster relief criteria. The administration’s financial moves across key areas include: 1. Medicaid - The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) deferred over $1 billion in Medicaid payments to California and Minnesota, citing concerns over suspected fraud and high billing for home-based services. 2. FEMA / Disaster Aid - The administration has denied FEMA major disaster declarations and aid to Democratic-led states at a higher rate than Republican ones. For example, the administration rejected $227 million in snowstorm recovery aid to New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. 3. Public Health & Grants - The administration has canceled or withheld various health, transportation, and social services grants—including child care funding—to blue states. The administration has heavily justified these moves as a crackdown on financial waste and as leverage to force compliance on policies like immigration and election security. The affected states often challenge these actions as partisan overreach. Many have appealed the denials and filed lawsuits, arguing the weaponization of federal funds harms everyday residents. It is shocking and appalling that Trump has decided to go after states that didn't vote for him by withholding federal funds appropriated by Congress. This is very possibly illegal, but also vmcuts at our democracy and bleeds into authoritarian practices. Trump is showing himself to be small, petty, and vindictive by lashing out at statues he didn't carry in the election. A man like this is totally unfit for office. Someone who consistently goes after perceived enemies, bullying whomever he can, is exactly why we are in this illegal war with Iran. Trump saw someone he thought he could push around and went after Iran full force. This is not a stable man or leader. He is subject to his own whims and we should be truly scared that he has access to our military power and our nuclear codes
