An Open Letter

To: Asm. Ward, Sen. Weber Pierson

From: A constituent in San Diego, CA

April 8

Please vote YES on AB 2600 to expand legal counsel to all Californians facing deportation. ICE has detained a record number of immigrants, documented and undocumented, visa holders, and asylum seekers, and rushed to disregard their due process rights and expedite to deportation proceedings. It is right for us to do by our neighbors to ensure they receive a fair trial with adequate legal representation and support. We made it right by expanding access for children last year - let's also include adults. This bill does not obligate a specific dollar amount to immigrant legal aid, but creates a framework to channel funds. California can lead the way for other states to do the same. Please support the quick passage of this legislation and vote YES and advocate for inclusion of funding in this year's budget cycle.
