The press release the Justice Department issued earlier this week (and didn’t file with the court) explained that “the United States,” (i.e., the president and not Congress), would send $1.7776 billion to “an account for the sole use by the Anti-Weaponization Fund.” So maybe Congress should wake up?
Yes, maybe you guys should wake up. “Power of the purse?” Ever heard of it? You can tell DOJ and Treasury they may NOT make payments to persons who attacked the Capitol, assaulted Capitol police or participated in actions against the Congress on Jan 6, 2021. You may tell DOJ and Treasury they may only use a judgment fund to pay people who have filed a timely (within the statute of limitations) lawsuit against the government and who a federal judge agrees has a good faith, non-frivolous claim. You may tell DOJ and Treasury that the President may not control the expenditures from any judgment fund or select the members of any such board or committee. You may tell DOJ and Treasury that no payments may be made to any person who was convicted or previously pled guilty to any Jan 6, 2021, crime, regardless of any subsequent pardon or commutation of sentence. And you may make it a criminal offense for any federal employee (political or career) to participate in any payment in violation of that statute.
DO YOUR JOB! Control taxpayer funds and oversee the DOJ and Treasury.
