Oppose the Irresponsible Attempt to Abolish USAID

To: Sen. Booker, Rep. Sherrill, Sen. Kim

From: A verified voter in Boonton, NJ

July 14

I am writing to express my strong opposition to H.R. 1029, which proposes abolishing the U.S. Agency for International Development. Let’s be clear: this is reckless, performative legislation with zero regard for the consequences. USAID plays a critical role in global health, disaster response, and development work that ultimately keeps Americans safer and strengthens our alliances. Eliminating USAID would leave a vacuum that adversaries like China and Russia would gladly fill. It would also abandon countless vulnerable communities who rely on U.S. leadership during humanitarian crises. I’m frankly appalled that in 2025, elected officials are trying to gut one of the most effective foreign policy tools we have out of sheer ideological spite. This bill is not about fiscal responsibility—it’s about dismantling American influence and credibility abroad. I strongly urge you to publicly oppose this legislation and work to ensure it never advances. Our country’s values, security, and reputation are on the line. Thank you for standing up for sanity and against this short-sighted nonsense.
