Disappointment in Your Photo with Netanyahu — A Call for Accountability

To: Sen. Cantwell

From: A constituent in Seattle, WA

July 11, 2025

As a constituent and Washingtonian, I am deeply disturbed by your recent photo opportunity with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — a figure currently facing an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. This is not a matter of optics. It is a matter of moral clarity. Your decision to stand alongside Netanyahu, particularly as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to devastate innocent lives, sends a chilling message about whose suffering we are willing to ignore in the name of political alignment. It stands in sharp contrast to the principled actions of your Washington colleagues — Senator Patty Murray and Representative Pramila Jayapal — who rightly refused to participate in Netanyahu’s congressional appearance last year. You have consistently received failing marks from human rights organizations like the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights Action. And your top donor relationships — including over $200,000 from AIPAC and its affiliates, according to OpenSecrets — only reinforce the perception that your stance on this issue is out of touch with the moral and political values of your base. Let me be clear: I will not forget this. Nor will many of your constituents. I intend to put my time, energy, and resources into supporting a primary challenger who will stand on the side of human rights, international law, and accountability. Washington deserves leadership that does not equivocate in the face of atrocity — and that refuses to be complicit through silence or photo ops. We will remember.
