Bring Kilmar Garcia Home
To: Rep. Cleaver
From: A constituent in Kansas City, MO
April 14
If President Trump and his advisors and Cabinet members continue to defy the judicial branch of government by deporting people without due process and refusing to bring back individuals like Kilmar Garcia whom they have admitted were deported by mistake, you MUST live up to the oath you swore to the Constitution and assert your authority as a coequal branch of government. Our Republic will not stand if the Executive Branch is permitted to flout the law without consequences.
The current situation represents a clear Constitutional crisis. The Supreme Court says that the government must facilitate the return of Kilmar Garcia, yet the government continues to refuse to do so and some of the administration's spokespeople claim that it is up to EL SALVADOR whether the deportees get returned.
If the government is permitted to remove legal residents without due process and ship them to prisons in foreign countries and claim that it then has no authority to return them, there is nothing to stop the government from doing so to me for writing you this letter. I urge you to work with your colleagues to use every tool at your disposal, up to and including impeachment, to stop the unlawful actions of this government before it collapses our co-equal branches system of government and returns us to the type of dictatorial system that we fought a revolution escape from.
Thank you for your service.
