An Open Letter

To: Gov. DeWine, Rep. Fowler Arthur, Sen. O'Brien

From: A constituent in Ashtabula, OH

February 2

I am writing to you today as a concerned Ohioan to urge you to stand up for the residents of Springfield and defend the stability of our state. The looming expiration of Temporary Protected Status for our Haitian neighbors and the potential surge of ICE enforcement is not just a humanitarian crisis. It is a threat to the peace and economic prosperity of Ohio. Governor DeWine has rightly stated that these individuals are "hard workers" who have contributed significantly to the "upward movement" of Springfield. Forcing 15,000 contributing members of our community into the shadows or into violent conditions in Haiti is a policy failure that will leave Ohio businesses short-staffed and Ohio families in fear. I ask that you publicly demand that the federal government extend TPS for the Haitian community immediately and refuse the use of State resources (such as the Ohio State Highway Patrol) to assist in mass deportation efforts that tear families apart. Ohio is at its best when we protect those who work hard and follow the law. Please do not allow federal overreach to destroy the progress Springfield has made.
