Despite accusations against the DOJ under Biden, it is Donald Trump who weaponizing the DOJ to settle personal vendettas. The Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation into E. Jean Carroll, the former magazine columnist who accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault. E. Jean Carroll was awarded 88.3 million dollars, which Trump has avoided paying by filing continual legal appeals, all of which have failed. The DOJ investigation is focused on whether Carroll committed perjury in testimony tied to her two civil lawsuits against President Trump — one alleging he sexually abused Carroll in a New York department store in the mid-1990s, and a second for defaming her when in 2019 he repeatedly denied the assault, said she wasn’t his type and claimed she made it up to boost sales of a book. Donald Trump's legal team had alleged that Carroll perjured herself during her 2022 deposition regarding the financial backing of her lawyers. However, the appellate panel rejected these claims, allowing the defamation case and the subsequent jury awards to stand. In multiple appeals, three-judge panels from the Second Circuit affirmed that the facts established by two separate juries—THAT DONALD TRUMP SEXUALLY ABUSSED CARROLL AND DEFAMED HER BY CALLING HER ALLIGATIONS A HOAX—were correct. The panel explicitly stated that the underlying jury findings proved Carroll was telling the truth.
