Rethink Gaza proposal, promote dialogue for lasting peace

To: Rep. Scott, Sen. Warner, Sen. Kaine

From: A constituent in Portsmouth, VA

February 5

The proposal to have the United States take ownership of the Gaza Strip raises significant concerns. Imposing foreign control over Gaza would likely exacerbate tensions and instability in the region rather than promote a lasting resolution. History has shown that unilateral actions and forced occupation breed resentment and conflict, undermining any prospects for peace. Instead, a durable solution must come through respectful dialogue and an agreement among all stakeholders that addresses the root causes of the conflict and the legitimate aspirations of all peoples involved. I urge you to reconsider this proposal and refocus efforts on facilitating negotiations in good faith towards a just and mutually agreed upon settlement that upholds human rights and self-determination. Only through such an approach can we hope to break the cycle of violence and lay the foundation for true reconciliation and shared prosperity in the region.
