I am writing to you as a constituent who believes that the Democratic party must pivot immediately into a post-Trump era. For too long, our political energy has been consumed by inquiries into the misconduct of Donald Trump and his allies. While the principle of the rule of law is vital, we must acknowledge the reality: the decorum of our political system has already been broken. Continuing to treat these inquiries as traditional legal exercises—while pretending that civil decorum still holds weight—is a strategy that has failed to move the needle for the average voter. If the party insists on continuing these inquiries, knowing they will not directly increase a voter’s bank account before the next election, then these proceedings should stop being "trials" and start being strategic. We must stop playing the role of the aggrieved party and instead exploit the opposition's addiction to conflict to increase our own credibility and visibility on the public stage. We must treat these moments not as somber quests for justice, but as the high-stakes political theater they have so obviously become. The goal must be to move past this era, not to remain trapped in a loop of retribution that only feeds the adversary's need for attention. To that end, I am asking that you and your colleagues devote no more than 8% of your time and resources to these inquiries. The remaining 92% of your energy belongs to the future, to tangible policy wins, and to a vision of governance that proves we can lead a country without being defined by the old weirdo we are still investigating.
