Violence at the Hands of ICE

To: Rep. Edwards, Sen. Tillis, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Asheville, NC

January 26

Alex Pretti, a peaceful bystander was executed on a Minneapolis street by ICE agents. This statement is true, and yet it makes no sense. He filmed agents. He attempted to help a bystander who was pepper sprayed by agents. He exercised his second amendment right to carry, yet he never reached for his weapon. He was forced to the ground, an agent removed his pistol from where it remained at his back, and Alex Pretti was then shot in the back, executed by at least two Immigration agents. If ICE is really deployed to protect Americans from violent criminals, how can it be that they themselves are striving so fervently to spread violence across the country? Can it simply be that they’re so untrained they truly don’t know how to de-escalate? And if so, why are they deployed anywhere? And why is the whole Trump administration clearly lying about this encounter, going so far as to blockade the scene from lawful state investigators? This cannot continue. ICE must be subject to congressional oversight. The agents who killed Alex Pretti and Renee Good must be relieved of duty and properly investigated. ICE must not receive any more funding until it returns to a state of serving the public, not harming it.
