An Open Letter

To: Rep. Gutierrez, Sen. Sundareshan, Gov. Hobbs, Rep. Mathis

From: A constituent in Tucson, AZ

June 2

If HB 2873 passes the House of Representatives in Arizona today, Governor Hobbs needs to veto the bill. This bill is a piece of temporary legislation, explicitly written by the lobbyist for a data center developer to circumvent litigation and create a loophole in Arizona State Law that would allow a single person or entity to withdraw a petition for referendum after signatures have already been submitted, effectively disenfranchising all of the people who signed those petitions. We don't want data centers in Arizona. We don't want data centers in Marana. Thousands of people came out to sign these petitions and they deserve to have their voices heard. Marana Citizens for Ethical and Transparent Government is still fighting for that right in court and we need to let that process play out, rather than allowing special interests to write their own laws. Governor Hobbs needs to veto this bill.
