I am writing to urge you to vote against the current rescissions package that includes significant cuts to foreign aid funding, and to preserve full funding for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). PEPFAR has been a critical program in the global fight against HIV/AIDS, saving over 25 million lives worldwide. However, recent actions by the administration, including funding freezes, canceled awards, and reorganization of implementing agencies, have already severely disrupted PEPFAR’s ability to provide essential HIV treatment and prevention services . Further cuts proposed in the rescissions package risk reversing decades of progress, leading to millions of preventable deaths and new infections, as well as increased healthcare costs in affected countries. Senate Republicans such as Senator Susan Collins have expressed opposition to cuts affecting PEPFAR, recognizing the program’s vital role in global health. I ask you to join these voices and oppose any legislation that would reduce funding for this lifesaving program. Maintaining robust support for PEPFAR is not only a humanitarian imperative but also a strategic investment in global health security. Please stand against the rescissions package and ensure that PEPFAR funding is preserved to continue saving lives and combating HIV/AIDS worldwide. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your leadership in protecting this essential program.
