Tax oil & gas companies and their suppliers now.
I just read in the Heated newsletter by journalist Emily Atkin about several new pieces of evidence that oil and gas companies are - these are my own words - ruining the world.
It's about climate heating, but also about callousness.
Here are the facts:
Chevron Chief Executive Mike Wirth sold some $104 million worth of shares between January and March. $17.2 million of those sales had no trading plan attached - he chose to sell to profit even more off the war.
In a recent survey, one anonymous oil executive said "I don’t like profiting from a war. I didn’t choose this, and it feels awful.”
In top of all that, the U.S. deliberately lets the leaders of these companies - a huge, entrenched industry with gigantic profits every year - pay next to nothing in taxes. Chevron apparently paid a 2% tax! Exxon about 2.6% and yet had to pay 9 times that amount in other countries - a U.S. company paying more to other companies, thus fueling their economies and services so much more than at home.
Wtf? Change this!
