Vote no on H.R. 7661, the so-called Stop the Sexualization of Children Act. This bill isn't about protecting kids. It's about giving politicians the power to decide which stories belong on library shelves and which don't.
I trust trained librarians and literacy professionals to select age-appropriate materials, not politicians with a censorship agenda. These professionals understand child development and community needs. They help young people become lifelong readers. Parents, not Congress, should guide their own children's reading choices. My family doesn't need the government restricting what books we can access.
H.R. 7661 would ban federal funds for any program with materials deemed "sexually oriented" for anyone under 18. That vague language could sweep away countless books that help teens navigate real issues they face. Instead of this censorship bill, support the Right to Read Act, which would actually strengthen school libraries and protect educators who connect students with books.
The freedom to read is fundamental. Don't let this bill strip families of the right to make our own decisions about what our children read.
