Pay TSA agents; rein in ICE

To: Sen. Moody, Rep. Luna, Sen. Scott

March 26

I urge you to take immediate action to protect critical public safety services while reining in ICE. Congress must pass a funding carveout to ensure that agencies like TSA, FEMA, and other essential DHS functions are fully funded and operational. TSA workers should not be forced to go unpaid while Congress negotiates over ICE policy. These are essential personnel who keep our transportation systems safe and respond to disasters—Floridians depend on them. At the same time, ICE’s current operations are creating chaos and fear in communities across the country. Reports of masked, unidentified agents operating without clear accountability are deeply alarming. That is not how law enforcement should function in a democracy. Strong safeguards—like requiring warrants and banning the use of masks—are necessary to restore basic standards of transparency and accountability. I also urge you to take a hard look at ICE’s funding levels. Taxpayer dollars should not be used in ways that undermine public trust, destabilize communities, or violate basic rights. There must be real oversight and meaningful limits on how this agency operates. Please act now to protect essential services, ensure accountability, and restore a sense of safety and integrity in our communities.
