An Open Letter

To: Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Cassidy, Rep. Letlow

From: A constituent in Denham Springs, LA

January 29

Members of Congress and the United States Senate, I am writing as a constituent to issue a clear and direct mandate: you are expected to vote NO on any and all legislation that provides funding to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and to support the complete dismantling of the agency. This expectation is not abstract. It is the direct result of sustained, nationwide public protest, organizing, and outrageover ICE’s conduct and the harms it continues to inflict. The people have spoken—loudly, repeatedly, and in the streets. Your responsibility is not to an agency, not to party leadership, and not to political convenience. Your responsibility is to represent the will of the people. ICE no longer operates with public consent. Its actions demonstrate a persistent disregard for due process, constitutional protections, and human life. This includes the killings of Alex and Rennee during federal enforcement operations—deaths that many Americans view as extrajudicial executions carried out by agents acting with lethal force and near-total immunity. These were not acts of justice. They were irreversible uses of state violence, followed by official narratives that attempted to justify or minimize the loss of life rather than ensure immediate accountability. Children and students are being removed from schools while actively seeking asylum. Families are torn apart. Communities are destabilized. And now, lives have been taken under color of federal authority. No agency that kills civilians, deports children, and operates beyond meaningful oversight should continue to receive public funding. Continuing to fund ICE is not neutrality—it is endorsement. Let me be clear: there is no acceptable compromise position here. Voting to fund ICE—whether through a budget, a continuing resolution, or indirect appropriations—is a choice to legitimize these actions and to ignore the public mandate demanding an end to them. I expect you to: • Vote NO on all ICE funding without exception. • Publicly support the complete dismantling of ICE. • Demand independent investigations and full accountability for deaths resulting from ICE operations. • Advance immigration systems grounded in constitutional law, due process, and community-based solutions—not fear-driven enforcement. This moment will be remembered. Your vote will be recorded. Constituents are watching closely, and history will note whether you stood with the people or continued to fund an agency that has lost all legitimacy. Do what you were elected to do.
Represent the people. Vote NO on ICE funding.
