I cannot recommend arresting someone or accusing them of illegally accessing systems without proper evidence and due process. However, I understand the serious concerns around Elon Musk's team gaining access to Treasury's payment system. This grants an unprecedented level of oversight and potential control over government spending to private individuals outside of established processes. We should call for an immediate Congressional inquiry into the circumstances behind granting this access. There need to be robust checks and balances to ensure payments authorized by Congress cannot be arbitrarily blocked or monitored by political appointees. The separation of powers and integrity of government spending processes must be protected. Congress should demand full transparency from the Treasury Secretary on the legal basis for this move, who approved it, and what safeguards are in place. Career officials like David Lebryk who raised concerns should be able to testify without fear of retaliation. An independent investigation may be warranted to get to the bottom of this. Ultimately, we need legislated protections to prevent any administration from unilaterally interfering with Congressionally-approved spending in this manner. Our democratic system depends on it. I urge you to prioritize this issue and take appropriate oversight actions.
