Constituent Seeking Action Against Far-Right and End to Elite Impunity
To: Rep. Smith
From: A verified voter in Seattle, WA
November 5
Congratulations on your reelection. I am writing to urge you to avoid the mistakes of the Biden era and vigorously pursue an end to elite impunity and a change in House leadership.
We have a very short period of time ensure that the next right-wing demagogue cannot replay the Trump playbook more successfully, and the only way to do that is with an aggressive pursuit of criminal charges for criminal behavior at the highest levels of government along with sweeping progressive policies that unambiguously impact the lives of every American. These are not alternative agendas: no progressive policy is safe from dismantling when the wealthy and powerful can break the law without fear of reprisal.
Your constituents don’t want bipartisanship, reconciliation, and slopulism. We want justice for the victims of the regime, historic examples to be made of the perpetrators, vigorous prosecution and regulation of the corporations that have enriched themselves through collaboration, ironclad support for the rights of immigrants, people of color, and transgender people, and universal programs that provide medical care, housing, and food security for every single person. The only reaching across the aisle we want to see is to hand out subpoenas.
It’s clear that won’t happen with current Democratic leadership. Hakeem Jeffries’ political career is funded by the crypto industry, AIPAC, Wall Street (including Bain capital) and companies like Palantir and Anduril that have direct ties to the far-right. In short, he is funded by the very people wrecking society. He has shown repeatedly that he will not pursue the agenda needed to end elite impunity to the rule of the law and the policies that undergird an egalitarian society. I urge you to do everything in your power to find leaders who are not peddling the failed rhetoric of unity and reconciliation with fascists.
