We must oppose House Bill 4764

To: Rep. Gatch, Gov. McMaster, Sen. Bennett

From: A verified voter in Summerville, SC

January 13

I oppose House Bill 4764 that would require every single South Carolina Sheriff’s department to enter into a written agreement with federal immigration authorities to help carry out operations. -ICE collaboration erodes trust in local law enforcement. -Collaboration with ICE costs local taxpayers more money. -Aggressive ICE enforcement does NOT make our communities safer. -Racial profiling enforcement patterns erode our civil liberties AND exposed local law enforcement to new legal liabilities. We have seen ICE mishandling citizens' and community members' Constitutional rights all too often. We do not want our local law enforcement to participate in this or in any way feel they should comply with anything unconstitutional or illegal just because a federal law enforcement directed it. As citizens and LE, we are loyal to the United States Constitution, not to a political party or particular political figure. Please vote against this bill. It's not good for our South Carolina communities.
