Protect transgender rights and diversity programs - reject regressive orders

To: Gov. Youngkin, Del. O'Quinn, Sen. Pillion

From: A constituent in Bristol, VA

January 30

The Trump administration's executive orders rolling back protections for transgender individuals and terminating federal diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs are deeply concerning. Transgender rights are human rights, and DEI efforts promote equitable opportunities for all. These orders perpetuate discrimination and move us backwards on important civil rights issues. Defining a person's gender solely by their reproductive anatomy at birth is an oversimplification that fails to recognize the complexity of gender identity. Transgender people deserve to have their identities respected and to be free from marginalization. Similarly, DEI programs play a vital role in fostering inclusive environments and providing historically marginalized communities a fair chance to thrive. Eliminating these protections and programs will only breed more intolerance and injustice. I urge you to reconsider these misguided policies that undermine human dignity and equal rights. Our society benefits when we embrace diversity and create a welcoming environment for all people to participate fully. Please stand up for the values of equality, compassion and progress. H: Here is a draft message to representatives regarding Trump's executive orders rolling back transgender protections and ending diversity, equity and inclusion programs: These executive orders represent a disturbing regression on civil rights. Defining gender solely by reproductive anatomy at birth is an unacceptable erasure of transgender identities. Transgender Americans deserve to have their gender identities respected and be free from marginalization. Eliminating protections for this vulnerable community perpetuates discrimination. Similarly, diversity, equity and inclusion programs are vital for promoting fair opportunities for historically marginalized groups. Ending such initiatives moves us backwards on important progress toward an equitable society. Our nation benefits from creating environments that embrace diversity. I urge you to firmly oppose these orders that undermine human rights and human dignity. Transgender rights are human rights. DEI efforts foster a more just society for all. Stand up for true equality by rejecting policies that enable intolerance and injustice. Our nation must continue advancing civil rights, not regressing.
