Concerns regarding civil liberties
To: Rep. Beatty
From: A constituent in Columbus, OH
April 15
The unlawful detention of Iranian-American student Mohsen Mahdawi by U.S. immigration authorities raises serious concerns about due process and civil liberties. Holding individuals without charge or access to legal counsel is a violation of constitutional rights. As an upstanding member of the academic community at Columbia University, Mr. Mahdawi poses no threat and should be released immediately. This unjustified deprivation of freedom tarnishes America's reputation as a nation of laws and undermines our democratic values. I urge you to intervene swiftly to secure Mr. Mahdawi's release and prevent further erosion of civil rights protections.
