No business as usual in Congress while the executive branch is arresting judges. The arrest of Milwaukee Judge Hannah Dugan by the FBI on charges of obstructing immigration agents is a deeply concerning escalation of tensions between the judiciary and the Trump administration. Arresting a sitting judge over a disagreement about immigration policy is an alarming overreach that threatens the separation of powers fundamental to our democracy. Congress must forcefully assert its constitutional authority as a co-equal branch of government and refuse to conduct business as usual until this authoritarian overstepping is addressed. Failure to do so would effectively abdicate Congress's role as a check on the executive and embolden further erosion of judicial independence. Deliberation and resolute action to uphold the rule of law are urgently needed to prevent a constitutional crisis.
