I write as a concerned American who believes deeply in the principle that this country is strongest when we lift people up, not tear them down. I urge you to stand firm and vote NO on the recently proposed Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025, introduced by Sen. Bernie Moreno, who was born in Colombia himself, which would outlaw dual citizenship for U.S. citizens. This bill strikes against what America has always been: a place built by immigrants — people who carry the hopes of their families, the work ethic forged across continents, and the belief that freedom here means something real. Immigrants have built neighborhoods, started businesses, served in our military, taught our kids, and strengthened communities across the nation. To force someone to choose between their heritage and their home is to punish exactly the people who helped build this country. Dual citizenship is not a threat — it is a bridge. It connects us to the rest of the world, helps families stay united across borders, and strengthens our global ties. Many Americans with dual citizenship contribute to our society every day — starting small businesses, paying taxes, raising children, and bringing cultural diversity that enriches our communities. There is no evidence that dual citizenship undermines loyalty. On the contrary: it represents a deeper commitment — to both roots and to the promise of America. If passed, this legislation would send a chilling message: that you must shed your past to belong here. That your background, your family, your history — even if you came here legally or were born here — doesn’t fully count. That’s unacceptable. It undermines our values of inclusion, dignity, and respect for the diversity that has always made this nation strong. I urge you not to erase the contributions of millions of hardworking Americans. Instead of building walls around the idea of who belongs in this country, we should raise bridges — bridging cultures, communities, and opportunities. Please vote NO on the Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025. Let’s keep America open to everyone who believes in its promise. Thank you for your time and for standing up for all people who call this country home.
