I am writing to express my alarm over recent reports that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has unlawfully accessed classified materials at USAID and that two senior security officials who attempted to intervene were placed on leave. Furthermore, President Trump’s efforts to dismantle USAID—freezing aid, furloughing employees, and taking its website and public communications offline—raise significant legal and national security concerns. Even more troubling is the latest report that DOGE has assumed control over federal payments, halting funds to government contractors, including humanitarian organizations. This blatant usurpation of Congress’s constitutional power of the purse represents a direct attack on our system of government. I urge you to take immediate action to: 1. Investigate the Breach of Classified Materials – Unauthorized access to sensitive information by DOGE staffers poses a serious national security threat. 2. Defend Congressional Authority – Congress must not allow an unelected official to seize control over federal funding decisions. This is an unprecedented and unconstitutional power grab. 3. Protect USAID and Federal Workers – Halt the retaliatory actions against USAID employees and ensure that crucial foreign aid operations are restored. These actions threaten the balance of power in our government and set a dangerous precedent. I urge you to publicly condemn these violations and take immediate legislative and legal steps to restore congressional authority and prevent further overreach.
