As an Arizona resident, I have seen firsthand what happens when immigration enforcement operates without transparency. The abuses committed under former Sheriff Joe Arpaio serve as a painful reminder that unchecked authority leads to widespread harm, disproportionately affecting Black, Latinx, and Indigenous communities. A recent case in Worcester, Massachusetts—where ICE agents violently detained a Black Latin teenage girl and her infant grandchild—has made national headlines. This incident is just one example of ICE’s aggressive tactics that violate the principles of due process and humane treatment. Because ICE is a federal agency, this kind of abuse could happen anywhere, including here in Arizona. As our state senator, you have the power to demand action at the federal level. I urge you to: - **Introduce a formal resolution** calling on Congress to investigate ICE’s enforcement practices. - **Collaborate with fellow state officials** to limit local cooperation with unlawful or abusive ICE operations. - **Advocate for federal legislation** that enforces transparency, including requiring warrants for ICE arrests in public spaces. - **Support independent oversight measures** that prevent racial profiling and excessive force in immigration enforcement. Arizona has been at the center of immigration debates for years, and we cannot afford to let history repeat itself. ICE must be held accountable for its actions, and states like ours should lead the charge in demanding justice.
