H.R. 7187: Excluding Transgender Women and Girls from Female Sports This proposed legislation, H.R. 7187, the "Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act", seeks to redefine the legal terms "female" and "male" based solely on reproductive anatomy. It would prohibit individuals deemed "male" under this narrow biological definition from competing in athletic events designated for "females, women, or girls", regardless of their gender identity or lived experience. Such a policy is discriminatory and fails to account for the complexity of gender and the varying biology, hormones, and physiology of transgender and intersex individuals. Rather than promoting fairness, it marginalizes an entire population from athletic opportunities integral to physical and mental well-being. A more inclusive approach respecting human rights and scientific understanding is warranted.
