Do something about the destruction of DEI

To: Sen. Alsobrooks, Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Harris

From: A constituent in Forest Hill, MD

April 26

Trump’s Department of Education just launched a national “End DEI” portal to report so-called “race- and sex-based discrimination” in K-12 schools, and the only group quoted in the press release was Moms for Liberty, an organization designated as an anti-government extremist group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Not only does the portal give Moms for Liberty a national platform, but it may have also handed them access to deeply personal reports submitted by students, parents, and educators. Information like school names, ZIP codes, email addresses, and 450-word complaints about curriculum and classroom content. The Dept of Education claims this is about “ensuring meaningful learning, free of divisive ideologies.” But it’s clear what this really is: a thinly veiled effort to chill inclusive education and deputize the far right to do it. This is an outrage. The portal must be taken down immediately, and the Dept. of Education must disclose every detail about Moms for Liberty’s involvement, including whether they had access to submissions.
