I am writing to urge you to vote against Bill 804. This bill is known as the Human Life Protection act but I fear it is not protecting the life of the mother at all. I fear as a mother in North Carolina myself who would love to have another healthy pregnancy here, that I will not have adequate care. My husband and I moved from Georgia to North Carolina to start our family because there were safer healthcare laws for women here. I fear that if I needed life saving medical treatment, my medical providers would fear the repercussions of Bill 804 more than they would fear the loss of my life. While “life saving measures” appear to be the exception to this bill, it seems quite subjective to the government what that line may be. I would love to grow my family in the beautiful state of North Carolina, where my husband was born and raised and where we have dreamed of raising our children. However, if it is unsafe for me to do so, we will have no choice but to move again so that I can have a planned pregnancy where I know I will receive healthcare without the fear and anxiety of being left to die. I have not even touched on the countless other reasons a woman may choose to make the hardest choice of her life. The government has no place in controlling the fate of families, only the place of protecting them. There are far bigger issues facing our state and country right now than continuing to control women’s bodies. Please consider the safety your mothers and wives have had for the past 50 years. Please grant that to me and my children as well. Thank you.
