Support gun violence prevention — yes on HR 660
To: Rep. Beyer
From: A constituent in Arlington, VA
December 17
Please pass HR 660, Ethan’s Law, to require the safe storage of firearms. America is marred by gun violence. Our children are dying. Our friends are dying. The worst part is, it doesn’t need to be this way.
The safe storage of firearms does not infringe on the second amendment, which itself caveats for a “Well regulated” militia. If the founders could see the nation now, they would be appalled by the blood in our streets; this time, not the blood of revolutionaries, but of martyrs.
I grew up in Jefferson County, Colorado. You may not know that name, but you’ll know this one: Columbine. I was not alive during the shooting, but even two decades later, the trauma of it still aches in the community. Did you know that to this day, Columbine closes down on the anniversary of the shooting? Even as we near thirty years later, it’s still unsafe for the students to be there.
We need common sense gun control, and this bill is step one. I expect you to vote yes, if and when it crosses your desk. I ALSO expect you to support and fight for follow on measures to further prevent acts of violence.
I will be watching your vote
