Stop the madness before he indelibly changes what it means to be an American.
To: Rep. Lieu
From: A constituent in Los Angeles, CA
January 14
I am a California resident, and I am HORRIFIED by what I am watching happen in Minneapolis and other U.S. cities.
I am the child of Holocaust survivors. I grew up hearing what happens when the government decides certain people don’t deserve basic dignity or due process. I don’t need a history lesson to recognize the feeling in my gut right now. I’ve heard this story before.
THIS IS NOT NORMAL! It does not look careful or controlled. It looks like masked gestapo agents in military gear showing up in neighborhoods, using unmarked vehicles, grabbing people, and refusing to clearly explain who they are or who sent them. That is TERRIFYING. It should be unacceptable in this country.
I am not excusing crime. I am not arguing about immigration policy. I am talking about how the government is choosing to use force. The way this is being done feels reckless and cruel, and once fear becomes the point, things go downhill fast.
This does not make communities safer.
What scares me most is that this is how it starts. If this is allowed to happen in Minnesota today, it will spread. Corrupt power always does. California will not be immune just because we assume we won’t be next.
I don’t want statements. I don’t want carefully worded concern. No thoughts and prayers.
I want you to demand answers from DHS and ICE about who authorized these operations and what limits exist.
I want you to support real restrictions on federal agents operating in civilian neighborhoods without local consent.
I want you to use oversight and funding power to stop this before it becomes permanent.
I grew up hearing what happens when people wait too long to speak up. This feels like one of those moments. Please act now.
