Urgent Civil Rights Issue: Detention of U.S. Citizen Despite Court Rulin
To: Justices Court
From: A constituent in Westfield, MA
April 17, 2025
I am writing to express grave concern over a matter that strikes at the core of American constitutional values: the continued detention of Juan Carlos Lopez-Gomez, a United States citizen who remains in custody despite having proven his citizenship in court.
Our Constitution guarantees due process and the equal protection of all citizens under the law. The fact that a citizen of this country can remain detained by immigration authorities after judicial confirmation of their status is not only shocking—it is a violation of fundamental rights and a dangerous erosion of civil liberties.
Though I understand the Supreme Court does not intervene in individual cases unless formally petitioned, I appeal to your moral authority and oversight of constitutional law. I urge you to be aware of this case and to consider the legal precedents and systemic failures it exposes. The treatment of Mr. Lopez-Gomez must not be allowed to stand unchallenged in a nation that prides itself on justice.
I am one of many Americans who believe the protections of our Constitution must apply equally, without exception, and that no citizen should fear being stripped of their freedom by bureaucratic error or abuse.
Thank you for your service to justice, and for your attention to the constitutional implications of this case.
