There are approximately 1.42 million people in NC receiving SNAP benefits or 12.8% of the State’s population. Of that number: - 80% are WORKING and often more than one job. - Over 20% are families with children and/or with women as heads of household. - 7.5% served in the US military. On the other hand, 44% of Americans are paid less than a living wage. Programs like SNAP wind up subsidizing corporate profits from entities such as Walmart, Amazon and McDonald’s. I would rather my tax money feed someone than line the pockets of another multibillion corporation! The billionaires class is the real “welfare queens” of the US, supported by the actions of the current GOP. Put a stop to this shutdown, force Trump to enact SNAP contingencies and start addressing the needs of American people - people in the state that YOU serve!
