Tie Utility CEO Bonuses to Customer Service

To: Sen. Kolker, Rep. Story

From: A constituent in Littleton, CO

July 27

Tie utility CEO pay to company performance. Our utility companies don’t have competition but do have stockholders. It is time to help the customers. Tying CEO bonus and stock options to company performance and customer costs will help move the focus towards customers. These CEOs have board determined bonuses and stock options. My suggestion is to lower the percentage of both the CEO can collect based on outages, price increases to residents and small businesses, and for following maintenance practices. The rate fee increase penalty should have a multi year look back. Until data centers have better regulations, they should be exempted from the calculation of percentage of bonuses and stock options actually granted. If the utility does a fantastic job, the CEO can get 100% of the board approved bonus and stock options. For a slightly above average job 70%. The state utility commission should be able to develop a formula that can be used.
