Demand Humanity from ICE and the President

To: Rep. Murphy, Sen. Budd, Sen. Tillis

From: A constituent in Nags Head, NC

May 8

It is imperative that Congress act to curb the vile human rights abuses being perpetrated by the Trump Administration, and ICE. The latest horrific report comes from Scripps News about Heidy Sanchez Tejeda being sent to Cuba without the child she was still breastfeeding. This is but one of hundreds of cases. Reform immigration if that is a priority. But figure out a way to do it that doesn’t traumatize children and young parents. These are the actions of a State that traffics in atrocities. This is why we have Congress. To form committees that figure things out. Figure out a way to solve the problem that is humane. And please, no b.s. or gaslighting about who did what, and who “deserves” it. You know that the reasons people migrate are complex and, from a humanitarian point of view, understandable. Do not pretend otherwise. I expect our representatives to attempt decency, and hold the less decently-inclined facets of government to account.
