I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to oppose President Trump's efforts to acquire Greenland, which are directly benefiting Russian President Vladimir Putin by creating dangerous divisions within NATO. Trump has announced retaliatory tariffs against European countries opposing his Greenland takeover and warned NATO members against participating in joint military exercises on the island. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has already acknowledged that NATO is in "deep crisis," while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has actively encouraged Trump's annexation efforts. This is exactly what Putin wants: a fractured Western alliance that cannot effectively counter Russian aggression. The American people do not support this reckless policy. A YouGov survey found that 72% of Americans oppose military takeover of Greenland, including 52% of Republicans. This is not a partisan issue but a matter of national security and international stability. Trump's behavior at the World Economic Forum in Davos further demonstrated the chaos of this approach. He insulted European allies, threatened to acquire Greenland, and delivered rambling, incoherent remarks to a silent room. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick was heckled and booed at a Davos dinner, with European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde walking out in protest. Our international credibility is being destroyed. The consequences extend beyond diplomacy. Swedish pension fund Alecta has sold between $7.7 and $8.8 billion in U.S. Treasury bonds over the past year, citing "reduced predictability" of U.S. policy. Denmark's AkademikerPension sold $100 million for similar reasons. Trump's erratic foreign policy is undermining confidence in American economic stability. I urge you to publicly oppose Trump's Greenland acquisition efforts, support legislation that would prevent military action or economic coercion against our NATO allies, and work to restore America's standing with our European partners. We cannot allow Putin to benefit from American chaos.
