The president's proposed budget plan would devastate America's national park system, potentially leading to the closure of over 350 park sites across the country. This constitutes an unprecedented attack on our shared natural and cultural heritage that has been protected for over a century. The proposed $900 million cut to park operations would cripple the National Park Service's ability to maintain these treasured places and provide visitor services. Our national parks safeguard invaluable resources, from iconic landscapes and historic battlefields to diverse ecosystems sheltering endangered species. They are economic drivers for local communities and provide countless recreational opportunities for Americans to enjoy the great outdoors. Allowing this extreme budget proposal to move forward would effectively dismantle over 75% of the National Park System. This reckless agenda undermines a proud bipartisan tradition of preserving our parks for future generations. Significant funding cuts of this magnitude are unacceptable and fly in the face of the National Park Service's mission. I urge you to resoundingly reject these drastic reductions and ensure our national parks remain fully staffed, operational, and protected for all to experience and appreciate.
