As a voter in your state, I urge you to oppose the SAVE America Act. Like the original SAVE Act, this proposal threatens access to the ballot by imposing unnecessary and burdensome requirements on voter registration.
Studies show that requiring Americans to produce documents such as a passport or birth certificate to register to vote would prevent millions of eligible U.S. citizens from voting.
Federal and state laws already make clear that only American citizens can vote in elections. And the National Voter Registration Act requires citizens registering to vote to confirm their citizenship status. The SAVE Act would merely disenfranchise the more than 21 million Americans who don’t have documents like a passport or birth certificate readily available.
We should protect the freedom to vote, not restrict it. Please reject the SAVE Act and its rebranded counterparts and instead prioritize policies that expand access to voting, protect election integrity, and ensure every eligible voter can participate in our democracy.
Thank you,
