Defend judicial independence and constitutional checks on executive power.
To: Sen. Scott, Rep. Webster, Sen. Moody
From: A constituent in Winter Garden, FL
February 10
The rule of law and the system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution are fundamental to protecting democracy and preventing abuse of power. Claims that judges do not have the authority to review executive actions are a dangerous undermining of judicial review, which is a crucial safeguard against government overreach. We must vigorously defend the independence of the judiciary to serve as a coequal branch able to restrain unlawful or unconstitutional actions by the president or executive agencies. Attempts to portray lawful court orders as illegitimate attacks on presidential power are extremely concerning. The judiciary's role in interpreting the law and checking executive power is essential, not a violation of separation of powers. I urge you to forcefully reject rhetoric dismissive of judicial authority and reaffirm commitment to upholding constitutional checks and balances. Preserving the rule of law must be a paramount priority to maintain our system of government and democratic rights.
